This guide is for consultants, advisors, coaches and fractional or former executives who want the right people and the right conversations in HubSpot, without copy-paste, and with an AI assistant able to read them.

Should you put your whole LinkedIn network in HubSpot?

Usually not. A CRM earns its keep on the relationships you are working on: clients, prospects, the people who refer work to you, and anyone you are in conversation with. Import every connection and those people disappear among thousands of contacts you will never touch, each one another record to keep clean. The better habit is to bring a person in when a conversation starts, and to bring the conversation with them.

How do you move LinkedIn connections into HubSpot for free?

  1. Request your connections from LinkedIn. Me, Settings & Privacy, Data Privacy, Download your data. Choose Connections and click Request archive. LinkedIn lists connections as available within 48 hours, and the link lasts 72 hours. It does not work from the mobile app.
  2. Cut the file down to the people who matter. Open the CSV in a spreadsheet and keep the clients, prospects and referrers. Expect the email column to be mostly empty: LinkedIn only includes an email when the person allowed it.
  3. Import into HubSpot. Contacts, Import, File from computer, then map the columns. Put the profile URL in HubSpot's LinkedIn URL property so you can find people again.
  4. Paste the conversations that matter into notes. Open the conversation on LinkedIn, copy it, and paste it into a note on the contact. Free, and it works, as long as you remember to do it.

The catch is upkeep. The export is a snapshot, so it is out of date the day you download it, and the conversations only reach HubSpot when you remember to paste them, which is exactly the week you are too busy to. More detail on the export itself is in the guide to importing LinkedIn contacts to HubSpot.

Can an AI assistant read your LinkedIn conversations in HubSpot?

Only if they are stored in a form it can read. Tools that log LinkedIn messages through HubSpot’s communications API store them as LinkedIn message activities, which is the native format and shows on the timeline next to emails and calls. But HubSpot’s own MCP server, the way AI assistants connect to a HubSpot account, lists calls, emails, meetings, notes and tasks among the activities it can read. LinkedIn messages are not on that list (checked 14 October 2026).

So if you want an assistant to prepare you for a meeting, summarize where a relationship stands, or keep records up to date from what was said, log your LinkedIn conversations as notes. Other AI connectors read HubSpot their own way, so check yours, and note that turning on Sensitive Data in HubSpot blocks activity data, notes included, from the MCP server.

What does the faster way look like day to day?

  1. Connect HubSpot once. Click Connect to HubSpot in Outscore. It guides you on HubSpot's own page to create a service key in your account, and the key stays on your computer. About two minutes, and the free CRM is fine.
  2. Choose how conversations are logged. Settings, HubSpot, Fields selection: as LinkedIn message activities, or as notes. Pick notes if an AI assistant or another tool reads your HubSpot.
  3. Add a person from their profile. On their LinkedIn profile, click Add to Outscore, then Push to HubSpot. Name, company, job title and LinkedIn URL go in, plus their email when they list it on their profile. Matching by LinkedIn URL means a second push updates the same contact.
  4. Log the conversation. Open the conversation and click Log to HubSpot (Push full thread to HubSpot in the classic look). Each push adds only the new messages, each dated to when it was actually sent, labelled by who wrote it.

You decide who goes in. Nothing reaches HubSpot until you push it. People are added one at a time, from their profile or from a conversation, on purpose: Outscore does not copy your network into your CRM. The one automatic option is Scheduled updates, which you turn on yourself: after each background sync, people who newly accepted your invitations are pushed to HubSpot, while Chrome is open.

If you also send invitations, the same extension tracks who accepted, who you messaged and who replied. The guide to syncing LinkedIn messages to HubSpot covers the conversation side in more depth.

Is this safe for your LinkedIn account?

Outscore performs no actions on LinkedIn. It never sends invitations or messages, never posts, and never asks for your LinkedIn password. It reads the profile or conversation already open on your screen when you click, and sends what you chose straight from your browser to your own HubSpot account. That is the same risk profile as browsing LinkedIn yourself. What LinkedIn does restrict is automation, explained in what the User Agreement says about automation.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best way for a consultant to get LinkedIn connections into HubSpot?

Bring in the people you actually work with, not your whole network. The free way is LinkedIn's data export (Settings & Privacy, Data Privacy, Download your data, Connections) filtered down in a spreadsheet and imported into HubSpot. The faster way is a read-only browser extension such as Outscore: open the person's LinkedIn profile, add them, and push them to HubSpot as a contact, matched by LinkedIn URL so a second push updates the same record instead of creating a duplicate.

Can my AI assistant read my LinkedIn conversations in HubSpot?

It depends on how they were logged. Tools that log LinkedIn messages through HubSpot's communications API store them as LinkedIn message activities. HubSpot's own MCP server, which AI assistants use to read a HubSpot account, lists calls, emails, meetings, notes and tasks among the activities it reads, and does not list LinkedIn messages (checked 14 October 2026). Notes are on the list, so if you want an assistant to use your conversations, log them as notes. Outscore lets you choose: LinkedIn message activities or notes.

Should I import my whole LinkedIn network into HubSpot?

Usually not. A CRM is for the relationships you are working on: clients, prospects, people who refer work to you, and the people you are in conversation with. Importing every connection buries those people under hundreds or thousands of contacts you will never touch, and every one of them is another record to keep clean. Start with the people you talk to, and add others when a conversation starts.

Why are email addresses missing from my LinkedIn connections export?

LinkedIn includes a connection's email address only when that person has allowed it in their privacy settings, under "Who can see or download your email address". Many people have not, so the email column of the export is often mostly empty, and HubSpot imports work best with an email. Outscore uses a contact's own listed email when they share it on their profile, and matches people by LinkedIn URL, which everyone has.

Does this work with HubSpot's free CRM?

Yes. Importing contacts works on HubSpot's free CRM, and Outscore's HubSpot connection works with the free tier too. You connect it with a service key you create in your own HubSpot account, which needs a super admin or a user with developer tools access.

Is it safe for my LinkedIn account?

Outscore performs no actions on LinkedIn: it never sends invitations or messages and never posts. It reads the profile or conversation already open on your screen, when you click, and sends what you chose to your own HubSpot account. That is the same risk profile as browsing LinkedIn yourself, which matters when your account is your reputation.
